What SIRIM certification actually is

SIRIM QAS International is Malaysia’s national certification body. For pipes, certification means:

1. Product testing against the relevant Malaysian Standard (dimension, pressure, impact, material properties).
2. Factory audits so the production line — not just a golden sample — meets the standard.
3. Batch marking and traceability — certified product carries identifiable marking that inspectors can verify on site.

The pipe that fails on site is rarely “bad plastic” — it is uncertified product on a job that required certified product. That is a procurement error, not a manufacturing one.

When each range is accepted

The rule: if there is an inspection, assume certification is checked. Confirm with the authority having jurisdiction — acceptance criteria differ between water, sewerage, and building scopes.

How to check certification on delivered pipe

• Marking. Certified pipe carries the SIRIM mark and licence/standard reference printed on the pipe itself (not only on the wrap). If the print is missing, query the batch before installation.
• Documentation. Ask the supplier for the certification covering the batch. For our certified ranges, certification status is confirmed with your quotation — ask and it goes in writing.
• Sizes and classes match. Certification covers specific standards and pressure classes. A certified PN10 batch does not certify PN16 use of a lookalike product.

The honest cost comparison

Non-SIRIM ranges exist because not every metre of pipe faces an inspector — and paying for certification you will never be asked to show is wasted margin. The failure mode is not the pipe failing; it is the submittal failing, the re-pull of installed pipe, or the delay while certified stock is sourced mid-project. If your project will be inspected, the price gap between ranges is trivial next to one rejection event.
