About this data
These requirements are transcribed from the MIG-MELEWAR BS EN 10255 welded steel tube data published on our GI pipe product pages — the same pipe we stock in socket-end 15–20 mm, socket-end 25–100 mm, and plain-end 65–350 mm ranges (6 m lengths).
BS EN 10255 replaced BS 1387; tenders still citing “BS 1387” are generally satisfied by BS EN 10255 material, but confirm with the consultant before submittal.
Reading the series system for procurement
- Light (L2), Medium, Heavy, L1 are wall-thickness series — heavier series = thicker wall at the same nominal bore = higher pressure capacity and rigidity. The colour band on the pipe (brown/blue/red/white) tells you which series you received.
- End finish — plain end (PE) or threaded & socketed (T/C). T/C pipes arrive with a malleable iron socket fitted; order PE for welded or grooved systems.
- Galvanised vs black — galvanised for corrosion exposure (most external and wet services), black for internal or painted systems.

Typical applications
Per the manufacturer: ordinary conveyance of steam, gas, air, and water — which in Malaysian practice translates to building water services, fire protection ranges, air lines, cable protection sleeves, and structural / support uses.
