The plumbing scope on a data centre

DC plumbing is four distinct scopes wearing one label:

  • Potable water — the incoming main and internal distribution to pantries, toilets, showers, and domestic water storage. This is the certified-product scope.
  • Sanitary and waste — soil, waste, and vent (SWV) pipework from the fit-out areas.
  • Rainwater and storm drainage — roof and podium drainage, often UPVC underground runs to the site drainage network.
  • Process and cooling makeup water — the feed to cooling towers and water treatment plant, where the plumbing package hands over to the cooling package.

The trap is scale: because the package is small, it gets procured late and casually — and then an inspection rejects a potable line, or a makeup-water tie-in holds up cooling commissioning.

Material selection

Potable and pressure lines — HDPE PE100. Buried incoming services and distribution in PE100 HDPE pressure systems, selected by PN class against the design pressure. Larger incoming mains — MSCL. Where the incoming main or yard piping runs to larger diameters, mild steel cement lined (MSCL) pipe to SPAN TS 21827 is the Malaysian waterworks standard — our range is SIRIM-certified, and the dimension schedule is on the MSCL spec table.

Drainage — UPVC underground. Sanitary discharge, rainwater leaders, and estate drainage in UPVC underground drainage & sewerage systems — the standard SIRIM-certified solution for Malaysian building drainage.

Stainless steel — where the specification calls for it: water treatment plant, process lines, and premium potable runs in plant rooms.

SIRIM / SPAN certification context

The potable scope is where certification stops being a preference. Water authorities and consultants check SIRIM certification on potable and drainage plastics at inspection, and steel water mains fall under SPAN technical standards (SPAN TS 21827 for MSCL).
